New East Cinema is an ongoing curated program of film screenings highlighting auteur-driven cinema from the New East.

The New East is a relatively new term which includes post-Socialist and post-Soviet states from Eastern Europe, Russia and Central Asia. Our program brings together creative works from territories with similar historical and cultural codes. Films from The New East are largely underrepresented in the West. We go in search of bold and subjective statements that reflect the world of today.

Our program focuses on experimental, independent films and documentaries which look at the post-Soviet or post-Socialist landscape. From the surreal to the polemic, these films deliver personal and authentic stories and new ways of seeing.

New East Cinema is presented in collaboration with the Barbican.
